This section looks at Merseyside’s experience of the Blitz of 1940-1941, the morale of the people during such a difficult time, including day-to-day life, and how the area defended itself from the air-raid threat. It also looks at the process of evacuation, an experience for tens of thousands of children in Merseyside. The area’s role in the wider strategic war to control the seas, and Merseyside’s contribution to the national war effort are also examined.
