Holly Lodge School opened in 1922 and Miss Drummond was the first headmistress. She remained as headmistress for 29 years. Following her retirement, one of the school buildings was named after her. The school was in a large house called Holly Lodge and there are still parts of the house that have not changed. For example, there is a big staircase in the main entrance hall and the stained glass window called the Jolly

Miller window. The school still has the lake that belonged to the house and now forms part of the school grounds.

In the 1940's, girls attending Holly Lodge wore a blue skirt that went past the knee, a plain white shirt, a blue tie and a blue hat with a ribbon around it. This is very different from the green and pink uniform that is worn today.

In 1944, an Education Act was passed by Parliament that entitled all children to a free education. Before this Holly Lodge had charged fees and there are still account books available from 1928 - 1945 that list all of the girls who came to the school and the amount that they had paid to attend the school.

There is also a record of girls who went on a "Pea Camp" in 1945. This school trip was to help the farmers pick peas as part of the post war drive to get people growing and picking their own foods.
