The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

The Catholic or Metropolitan Cathedral is located at the other end of Hope Street to the Anglican Cathedral, on Brownlow Hill. It was designed by Sir Frederick Gibberd and construction began in 1962 and was completed in 1967. It is a very modern building and contrasts with the Anglican Cathedral. The building is circular and has a large tower in the centre which has sections of stained glass. The bells are not inside the Cathedral but on front. Unlike the Anglican Cathedral, the altar in the Metropolitan Cathedral is in the centre.
