White Star Line - Introduction

Thomas Henry Ismay bought the name and the house flag of the White Star Line in 1867. He and then his eldest son J. Bruce Ismay would make the White Star Line one of the two most famous shipping lines ever, although the name is now forever linked with the most famous loss of civilian life at sea, the sinking of The Titanic in 1912. By the early 1930s the fortunes of the company had fallen and it merged with its biggest rival and the other most famous line, The Cunard Line.
