Formby Lighthouse, Liverpool At a height of 120ft (over 36 metres) Formby Lighthouse was built as a landmark. Nicholas Blundell of Crosby in his diary dated 17 September 1719 states that he and his wife rode out to see this landmark being built, at the Grange.
On 1 August 1834 Formby Lighthouse had a yellow light with a range of twelve miles (about 19 kilometres). On 1 February 1838 it changed to a red light. In 1839, when the Victoria Channel was opened, the Formby Lighthouse stopped operating and became a landmark. It was relighted on 16 October 1851.
The light was extinguished on 6 October 1856 and Formby Lighthouse was demolished in August 1941.
